Text messaging is the simplest and fastest way of communication. Even if you are a part of some company text messaging can help you in saving your ass. If you are going to be late for some business meeting you can just send a message “I will be 5 minutes late for the meeting”.

Well, in professional dealing there are certain rules for text messaging. You should not use text messaging as a primary source of communication and should keep communication through messages short and simple. It is better if you stick with 2 messages theory “one message and the other reply”.

Keep it Simple and Positive:

The basic rule you follow while writing email “keep it simple and positive” should also be followed while texting. Make sure you are not sounding harsh. Try to keep your message as simple as you can and maintain the positivity as well. Read your message twice before sending it.

Avoid Discussing Serious Issues:

Would you break up with your girl friend on a text message? We guess “NO” and you should not be doing so. Similarly, avoid giving negative feedbacks on the message. Make sure you do not fire someone through messages. This leave a very bad impression and shows unprofessional behaviour. Keep messages for conveying some very urgent message and that too by following the first rule.

Do not Use Abbreviations:

If you are using text messages for the purpose of conveying some business related information then make sure you avoid the use of abbreviations. Though abbreviations save you time but when you are dealing with someone from a professional perspective then you should sound professional. The use of abbreviations does not look professional so try to avoid it as much as you can.

Make Sure Auto-Correct Does not Mess Up:

Well,  latest smartphones auto correct feature of keyboards at times messes up things. You want to write something and it auto corrects it according to its understanding and you send the message without checking it. This leads to misunderstandings and creates some serious problems. Well, while sending business related message make sure to double check before sending your message. This will make sure that even if auto correct has changed some text you can fix it. This will save you from embarrassment.

Avoid Last Minute Cancellations:

If in case there is some last minute cancellation or some change in plan then avoid sending text messages. There can be any reason that the other person do not check your message. So, the best away to inform is to call instead of sending message.
