It looks like that Google has already taken the material design too seriously. Google has started rolling out a new Google Playstore update which completely changes the UI of Playstore. This new update brings the new material design to Playstore. Material design is actually ispired from flat user interface and we have already seen it in the newest version of Android; Android L.
This new update looked weird to use because Google did not change the entire UI. In fact it just updated the products pages like apps, 
magazines, games,music, movies and books. Home UI of Playstore stays the same. This is may be because Google plans to release the new UI update for the homepage at some later time.
