Rooting Nexus 6 and Installing TWRP Recovery http://54.152.129.122/index.php/2014/11/30/rooting-nexus-6-installing-twrp-recovery/ http://54.152.129.122/index.php/2014/11/30/rooting-nexus-6-installing-twrp-recovery/#respond Sun, 30 Nov 2014 12:42:42 +0000 http://smartphonetechie.com/?p=6671 To a number of Nexus 6 users, it is about time that it joined the rooting wagon. Better late than never though, because now users can enjoy the root and recovery option with such a powerful device as the Nexus 6. With the rooting option, users are afforded the privilege of deciding on what to do with the different apps and services available.

root Nexus 6

With the simple one-click root method (CF Auto Root) provided by Chainfire, rooting has been made much easier. In order to utilize the CF Auto Root though, you have to have unlocked the bootloader and the event you haven’t, the tool will automatically do the job for you, although you will lose data during the process.  In order to unlock the device, you need to enable the OEM unlock option which can be found in the settings bit of the menu under the developer options. Once the device is rooted, a custom recovery is essential to backing up the device in addition to trying out numerous mods and ROMS which can be gotten in the form of the TWRP recovery.

Let’s have a look see at how you can root the Nexus 6 and install TWRP recovery:

Warning

This rooting guide is not meant for any other device than the Nexus 6.you need to take care as you choose the rooting recoveries and firmwares since flashing the wrong ones might result in bricking your device. During the process, any consequences that might occur are left at your door step, meaning that no responsibility of the same will be accepted from us in case your device is damaged.

Preparing the device

  • Ensure that your Nexus 6 is charged to above 60% battery level if you don’t wish to have a shutdown during the process.
  • Enable USB Debugging
  • Ensure that the required USB drivers are installed on your PC
  • Make use of Google Sync service or any third-party app to backup your device contacts, storage, and SMS among others.

Rooting Nexus 6

Here are detailed steps for rooting Nexus 6.

  1. Download the CF one-click root tool for your Nexus 6
  2. Go to settings-Developer options and enable OEM unlock
  3. By way of the adb method it hardware combo, reboot the device into bootloader mode
  4. Extract the CF-Auto-Root-Shamu-Shamu-NEXUS6.Zip file on your PC
  5. By way of a USB cable, connect your device to the PC and ensure that it is detected.
  6. Click the root-windows.bat script in order to root your Nexus 6
  7. It is important to note that data from your device will be wiped in the process since the CF-Auto Root tool will also unlock the bootloader for the device. As such, it is imperative that you backup your apps and data beforehand. On the other hand, in the event your phone is already unlocked, the tool will only make attempts to root the device.

Once it has been successfully rooted, the Nexus 6 will reboot and mean that you can now move onto the TWRP installation part.

Installing TWRP on Nexus 6

  1. On your OC, you will have to download and extract the fastboot file
  2. Then you will need to visit with the TWRP official download page and download the latest TWRP recovery page.
  3. For convenience’s sake, you may need to rename the downloaded file as recovery.img, although it is not necessary.
  4. On your PC, in the folder with the extracted fastboot files, transfer the recovery.img file
  5. Go through the fastboot files folder and open the command prompt located in the folder. This can be done by pressing Shift Key + Right Click in the empty space in the folder. In the Windows context menu, select the Open command window here.
  6. Connect the Nexus 6 to the PC and ensure that it is detected before booting your device into the bootloader mode by making use f the command below in the command:

adb reboot bootloader

  1. You may make use of the fastboot command below once in the bootloader mode in order to flash the recovery image on your device:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

  1. Once the recovery is flashed, reboot the Nexus 6

5 Things You will Love About Nexus 6 http://54.152.129.122/index.php/2014/10/28/5-things-will-love-nexus-6/ http://54.152.129.122/index.php/2014/10/28/5-things-will-love-nexus-6/#respond Tue, 28 Oct 2014 10:28:28 +0000 http://smartphonetechie.com/?p=2714 If you are looking to buy a new Motorola Nexus 6 but you have suspended your decision just because you heard about something discouraging about it then wait, may be after reading this short article you can change your decision.

I have compiled a list of some of its good features let’s have a look I hope after go through them you sway your decision to choose some other phone rather than Nexus 6.

Stereo speakers

We have seen How HTC got a lot of praise as well as a good response from its users when they add the front-face stereo speakers to flagship one M7. Since then every manufacturer should be doing this now.

Motorola also did that after the successful launching of 2014 edition MOTO G and MOTO X Nexus 6 also features stereo user facing speakers. So it feels good to hear a loud and clear voice rather than from the speakers which used to face either the hands or feet.

Android lollipop

Like the recently announced HTC Nexus 9 Motorola Nexus 6 will come with pre installed android 5.0 lollipop and will enjoy privileges reserved for Nexus and Google play edition services.

The advantage of nexus devices above other android counterparts is they come up void of bloat ware.  Second thing is that they are guaranteed to first devices in line to receive any future software updates in the span of 18 months.

Internal Memory

There is no model of 16 GB for nexus 6 we only have two options. Either it is 32 GB or 64 GB memory storage. Nexus 6 base model comes with 32 GB memory storage with monstrous 3GB RAM. There is no existence of 128 GB.  As there is no need to have such a huge memory when we have cloud storage in our hands which is classic, cheaper and most popular.

Water resistant

Nexus 6 is water resistant, it’s a surprise to hear this because no one really knows about this, but yes Motorola has got success in making Nexus 6 with water resistance power. It is not the first time we saw, Motorola is now offering its smart phones with capability to resist water just like we saw from MOTO G to MOTO X.

T&W charging

You have to use it to see its worth. First one is turbo charging. We offer face tension when after a long hectic phone usage day you need to need to quickly prepare for an outdoor setting. In this situation in just 15 minutes your phone gets charged and will give you 6 hours of usage.

It is really cool, yes I am talking about wireless charging, don’t you bother yourself or fumble around with cables. You just need a Qi tech-based charger to charge your phone. It’s a pretty neat way to get rid of cables.  Try it and see its worth.

The Google Nexus 6: A winner? http://54.152.129.122/index.php/2014/10/16/google-nexus-6-winner/ http://54.152.129.122/index.php/2014/10/16/google-nexus-6-winner/#respond Thu, 16 Oct 2014 10:38:03 +0000 http://smartphonetechie.com/?p=1985 What do you get when you amalgamate the cutting edge tech and powerful core? A winner certainly. Make way for the new member in the family. The Google Nexus 6! Will it make a dent in the sales of rivals?

Nexus 6

The Google Nexus 6 or the “Motorola” Nexus 6 is a device that has been thought our well by the makers. In the clutter of Smartphones, Google may have produced a winner. Motorola already riding high on popularity & sales of their Moto G and Moto X devices will certainly help synergise the Nexus 6.

Why should you buy the Nexus 6 or why you should avoid it? We are going to find out, right about now. If you open the spec directory of the Google Nexus 6, you would be impressed downright. After all the flagships got to have latest tech.

Get the latest from Google

Running on Android Lolipop, Google has again banked on marketing of the latest updates being available, only to Google devices. Although we did not find any substantial changes in earlier versions of Android, The Lolipop seems to be a new story. The interface looks more exciting and more importantly “useful”.

However the screen size of 5.96 inches is quite a mouthful. While the screen size may confuse you into thinking that it’s a phablet, the slim design does compliment the big screen size. For some it might be a love hate relationship, which for others who love to watch movies on a bigger scree or are into gaming, the device should be perfect. The other lot would just have to manage with a bigger screen size.

Quad Core 2.7 GHz processor

With Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 & 2.7 GHz processor under the hood, the Nexus 6 should run fast enough to buy you a speeding ticket. Jokes apart, it should be enough to deliver a very smooth user experience. The internal storage or 32 GB and 64GB should be enough to store most of your music & videos. The Adreno 420 is more than capable of handling graphic intensive gaming. So if you are into gaming, you in in for a pleasant surprise.

Display & Camera

The pixel density of 493ppi is the real winner here. The resolution of 1440 x 2560 coupled with 493 ppi on a screen that is almost 6 inches, the display is extremely vibrant and beautiful. If you love to watch your movies on the phone, the Google Nexus 6 is for you. The Camera also surpasses the standards of many other flagships. The 13 megapixel rear camera along with image stabilisation, clicks ultra-sharp clear images with great color reproduction.

The battery of 3220 mAh should be enough to handle the screen size and power the phone for a full day even with moderate to heavy usage. So will all this reciprocate into sales? Well, for now we can expect large number of consumers to flock the shelves for the Nexus 6.

Specs were taken from the usual mid-range Android Smartphone, a few tweaks were made to make it as close to the Android experience while ensuring that the price remained an affordable one.

Since the announcement of the Android L by Google at its Google I/O conference, speculations as to when it would show up were high. Rumor had it that it would arrive sometime in the month of October. To add fuel to the fire, a video leaked information showcasing the new software build that runs on the Moto G Android L.

When it finally rolls out, the Moto G Android L is expected to be one of the first devices to get Android L, alongside Google’s Nexus and other handsets from Motorola such as the Moto X.

The video, which ran for all of six minutes was posted by developer MotoGDevelopmentMexico on Youtube. The new material design language for the UI, inclusive of all the new icons for the numerous key Android functions and the re-designed notifications bar and lock screen took the major part of the video. The UI animations and transitions make up one of the most visible elements of the Android L’s material Design. When compared to the old Android versions, they offer a different feel to them.

The Moto G Android L appears to have no trouble running the new Android build even taking into account that it is not one of the most powerful phones on the market. This goes to show that the Android L has been heavily optimized for a range of hardware.

Normally, users have had to endure a long wait in order to get newer versions of the platform since updates of such affordable devices are rare and since they tend to happen after an update to the flagship phones has been made.  With the video showcasing the Android L running on the handset, it looks like the wait will not happen for the Moto G Android L.  The video does highlight the new lock screen, apps and the revived look of Android L.

‘Shamu,’ Motorola’s Nexus 6 sneak peak! http://54.152.129.122/index.php/2014/09/25/shamu-motorolas-nexus-6-sneak-peak/ http://54.152.129.122/index.php/2014/09/25/shamu-motorolas-nexus-6-sneak-peak/#respond Thu, 25 Sep 2014 15:27:51 +0000 http://smartphonetechie.com/?p=1873 The Nexus 6 which may take on the name “Nexus X” according to some rumors has had many leaks and rumors running around the internet, complete with details and specifications of the same. Unfortunately, the rumors and leaks have remained just that, with no solid forthcoming information to back the same which has left many who were itching to have their hands on it reconsidering the wait.

On the bright side though, some of the rumors and leaks can now be corroborated! Its screen does take it out of the smartphone territory and into the phablet device territory. It does come with a screen that measures 5.92 inches diagonally and the device’s body that measure slightly bigger than that.

Nexus 6 Leaked

The overall appearance of the device will take on the 2nd generation Moto X, with a few tweaks here and there to make the screen that much easier to use. A report that was leaked last month via GFXBench seemed to have all but confirmed a number of facts as pertains to the device: a 5.2 inch 1440p display, 3GB of RAM, a 2.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, a 2 megapixel front-facing camera, a 12 megapixel rear-facing camera, 32GB of internal storage and Android L.

A few alterations to earlier reports or rumors do indicate that Nexus 6 will actually come in a 5.92 screen, complete with QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440. The battery will be a pretty impressive one, packing 3.200 mAh.

With regards to the camera, the back will boast of a 13 MP shooter as was rumored before with an ability to shoot 4K UHD video. The front face camera however will have a 2 MP shooter, pretty much the same as one on the 2nd generation Moto X.

At this point in time, we do understand that Nexus 6 will come with a Snapdragon 805 processor in line with previous rumors and will also come with a 3 GB of RAM. There are no conformations yet as to whether the device will run on the 64-bit Android L.

In terms of appearance, much as this device may look like a scaled up version of the Moto X, obvious differences can still be noticed. Main interfaces such as the headphone jack, mic, and SIM card slot will remain in much the same location as with the Moto X, with the lock and volume buttons moving down slightly when compared to those on the Moto X.

Release of this device is slotted for November, with a tentative announcement meant to be made some time in October.

Moto S and Motorola Droid Turbo Images Leaked Out http://54.152.129.122/index.php/2014/09/23/moto-s-motorola-droid-turbo-images-leaked/ http://54.152.129.122/index.php/2014/09/23/moto-s-motorola-droid-turbo-images-leaked/#respond Tue, 23 Sep 2014 19:25:20 +0000 http://smartphonetechie.com/?p=1860 Lately Motorola is in news. Thanks to the newly launched and highly appreciated all new Moto X and Moto G. But this time around Motorola is in news for its upcoming smartphones. It looks like that the company plans to introduce other smartphones as well in order to get better hold of the smartphone market in different regions of the world.

The first device which is expected to launch by the end of this year is Motorola Droid Turbo. It is going to be Verizon exclusive and will be the successor of last year’s Droid Ultra. We do not have any information on the hardware of the device but we do have the images of this upcoming device which reveals some details related to the appearance of the smartphone.

Motorola Droid Turbo

From the above images it is clear that Motorola Droid Turbo will come with 5.2 inch display and dual LED flash. Lately, we have seen Motorola using dual LED flash in its smartphones and it is expected that it will definitely improve the image quality especially in low light conditions. Another interesting here is that Verizon has placed the Droid logo just beneath the Verizon logo.

Now let’s shift our focus to another device which is expected to launch along with the Motorola Droid Turbo. Motorola is also working on next generation Moto S and it is expected to be something huge in small package. Thanks to HelloMotoHK we have the leaked image of Moto S back which reveals very little information related to the smartphone.

Moto S Back

Moto S looks similar to Moto X and it is expected that it will be Moto Shamu that was benchmarked few weeks back. All those rumours suggesting that Moto Shamu will be the next Nexus device are dead now. So, let’s wait to see if Moto S is Moto Shamu or it is a completely different smartphone.

Motorola Announces the New Moto G http://54.152.129.122/index.php/2014/09/05/motorola-announces-new-moto-g/ http://54.152.129.122/index.php/2014/09/05/motorola-announces-new-moto-g/#respond Fri, 05 Sep 2014 17:09:26 +0000 http://smartphonetechie.com/?p=1707 With the announcement of the flagship device, the New Moto X, Motorola has also announced the successor of Moto G. Though Motorola has completely revamped its best selling smartphone with better specification and feature but still the new Moto G only costs $179 off contract. Now this is a very wise pricing strategy from Motorola. The company is not only manufacturing smartphones with amazing specification but it is also pricing them very wisely. And we are sure that with this wise pricing strategy Motorola will have yet another best selling smartphone this year.

New Moto G Specifications:

The New Moto G has 5 inch 720p IPS display. From the looks of it, the display looks quite impressive and we are eager to do a detailed review on the New Moto G and find out the overall quality of its display. You can notice stereo speakers just above and below the display. This is a indeed a great addition to the mid range Moto G. We hope that it will greatly enhance the quality of loud speakers in the all new Moto G.

New Moto G

It has 1.2GHz quadcore processor, Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB RAM. The new Moto G is available in two different internal storage options of 8GB and 16GB. The good news is that it comes with microSD card slot unlike the new Moto X. This is a great addition to the new generation Moto G and it will certainly compel many new buyers to get the new Moto G who were previously reluctant to buy Mto G because of the lack of microSDd card slot.

Motorola has also worked on the camera department and this device comes with 8MP primary snapper and 2MP front facing camera. Users can use volume rockers as camera shutter key. It has a non removable battery of 2070mAh which we feel is small considering the fact that it has 5 inch IPS display. However, we will later test out the battery in our detailed New Moto G review. It will come out of the box with the latest Android 4.4.4 and will be upgraded to Android L as soon as it is released.
