All those waiting for the official announcement of Samsung Galaxy S5 mini, your wait is finally over. Samsung has announced the mini version of its flagship Galaxy S5. If we look at the mini and the normal version of the S5 we realize that Samsung has cut the performance with a meagre difference in the price.
Samsung Galaxy S5 mini comes with a 4.5 inch 720p Amoled display. Though it is slightly heavier than the S4 mini (120 g over 106 g) but the good news is that pixel density has been improved from 256 ppi to 326 ppi and this will certainly enhance the outdoor readability.
The mini version of S5 comes with IP67 certification which means it is dust proof and waterproof. Samsung has however removed the flaps and has still managed to keep it waterproof with some special coating. The back is similar to big version of Samsung Galaxy S5 and has a heart sensor. Just like the normal S5, the mini version also has the fingerprint reader.
Galaxy S5s mini disappoints when it comes to processing power. It has cortex A7 quadcore processor clocked at 1.4 GHz with 1.5 MB RAM. You get 16 GB internal storage with microSD card support. If in case it’s not enough you can use a microSD card up to 128 GB. It will come out of the box with Android KitKat 4.4 and the latest version of Touchwiz. Samsung Galaxy S5 mini has 2100 mAh battery which will provide enough juice to keep it running for a day.
Primary camera of the newly announced device is somewhat similar to Samsung Galaxy S4 mini. It features 8 MP primary shooter which is capable of shooting 1080p videos at 30fps. It will have more or less same camera modes just like the bigger version. It also has a 2.1 MP front facing camera.
Samsung Galaxy S5 mini will hit the market in late July with a price tag of $650. A dual sim version will also be launched for selected markets.
