According to Chinese Media CCTV, the ability of iPhone to track the location of an individual actually puts National Security at risk. According to Ma Ding, director of the Institute for Security of the Internet at People’s Public Security University in Beijing, the location tracker in iPhone can gather some critical information which poses threat to the national security.
Ma Ding also gave an example of tracking a journalist using a software to prove how lethal it can be for the security of the country. It is not the first time Apple is facing dispute in China. Apple lost a patent case for “Siri” Apple’s personal assistant, in China this week. So, it looks like that Apple is not going through a pretty good phase in China.
Though Apple is slowly gaining control over Android dominated Chinese market but still it has not been a cake walk for Apple in China. Back in 2013, Apple also faced issues and cases in China for poor after sales service in the country which dented the reputation of the company. In 2012, Apple had to pay around $60 million to a Chinese company for iPad trademarks. This clearly shows how bad things have been for Apple in China.
The issue of Chinese media with iPhone’s tracking service is may because the relationships between China and US have not been pretty good lately. Is iPhone threat to National Security? WHAT DO YOU THINK??
Apple has not given any comment yet on this.
