We know that Instagram messaging App Bolt is in work and we might see the official unveiling of this new application by the end of next week. Facebook already came up with photo messaging application Slingshot in order to counter Snapchat. Slingshot was a mere fail as it failed to attract people. So, this time around Facebook is going with already well established photo sharing social network Instagram and is working on 1 tap photo sharing messaging application Bolt.
However, Instagram Messaging App Bolt may face some legal issues as there’s already a VOIP and messaging application with the same name Bolt. Bolt’s founder, Andrew Benton, posted a blog post where he asked Instagram to reconsider its decision of using the name Bolt for its upcoming application. He said it is a great name and that is why we selected it 1 year back. According to him, his team has worked really hard to take this application from bottom to top therefore, Instagram shoul not destroy the efforts by using the name Bolt.
It has been a pretty gentle request from the developer of Bolt VOIP application as he fears that upcoming Instagram Messaging App Bolt may badly hamper the market of Bolt as it may create a lot of confusion among the people. Interestingly, Instagram Messaging App Bolt has somewhat similar logo to the other application and this might badly effect the market for VOIP application as it will definitely create confusion among the people.
In his official blog post Andrew Benton said:
Dear Instagram,
We’ve seen the rumors. You’re about to launch a one-touch photo messaging app to rival Snapchat. And we sincerely hope it’s a spectacular success.
There’s just one problem: you’re going to name it Bolt.
We know it’s a great name, because we chose it last year when we set out to build a better mobile voice and messaging experience.
We’ve worked really hard since then building the Bolt brand and technology to where it is today. Please don’t destroy all that effort.
This is not the first time when Facebook is using name of another application. Facebook has done this in past and it looks like Facebook will do it again. But we will have to see if they will face any legal action this time around or not.
May badly affect*
