Meizu made an announcement via their official FaceBook page that the Meizu MX4, its next flagship phone will be launched in September. The date of launch is set for September 2 at an event in Beijing. This is of course good news and has laid to rest speculations of what the company had in store for its consumers following a tease to expect August 18 to be a “splendid day” with the news they had to share.
The announcement has at least lain to rest earlier expectations of either the announcement of the Meizu MX4 itself, or the announcement of the Flyme OS 4.0, which is the company’s interpretation of Android.
The Meizu MX4 is speculation to have a 20.7 MP rear camera, come in the two colors of black and white, have 4G LTE support, a powerful chipset from either MediaTek, Qualcomm or Samsung and have 3GB of RAM.
There are image teases with a large font tagline that reads, “Think High”, the number 4 on the right and a smaller font stating the date, time and place of the launch. According to a comment from Meizu, the tagline “Think High” is in relation to exploring new possibilities, striving to be anything but ordinary and embracing technological innovations.
Rumor has it that the Meizu MX4 will come in two different versions, the ‘base model’ and a higher-end version, with the high-end featuring a Samsung Exynos 5430 octa-core SoC, a 20.7 mega pixel Sony IMX147 camera and 3GB of RAM. There is also speculation that it will comprise of a 5.4 or 5.5 inch display and a 2560 x 1440 pixels resolution. Rumored leaks in terms of the price attached to the device are that it will retail for CNY 2,499 (($406 or €303). With this price in mind though, the top of the line SKU will most probably cost a lot more than this.
Meizu has been doing fairly well over the past year or so, and they have recently updated their FlymeOS to Android 4.4 KitKat, hence making them one of the few Chinese manufacturers to offer the latest version of Android.
